Iran Brutally Burns UK's Ambassador, Rob Macaire's Effigy: A War Provocative Than A Diplomatic Move
Iranian protesters burned the United Kingdom's ambassador's Effigy in Tehran as the country's judiciary called the diplomat an undesirable element.
At the center of tensions between London and Tehran apprehended by the police on Saturday in the capital of Iran. He was released minutes later. Ayotollah Ahmad Alanolhoda, a prominent Iranian cleric also quoted as saying the expulsion of Macaire would be "the best thing that can happen to him. He further asserted that Macaire would rather e chopped to small pieces by the supporters of Qassem soleimani, the Iranian commander that was killed by a US drone strike earlier this month.
however, the protest occurred during a memorial for passengers of the Ukrainian plane while a cardboard cutout of Macaire was burned alongside UK and US flags at the front of the University of Tehran by members of the Basij, militia loyal to the Iranian regime.
Although the foreign Secretary in the person of Dominic Raab claimed the government had received no formal indication that Macaire will be expelled from Iran. In his address to the House Of Common, he said: "It would be deeply regrettable if that were the case. We need to keep the diplomatic channels open, and futile gestures like that are not liable to resolve the problems that the regime in Tehran faces".
Hamid baeidingad, Iran's ambassador to the UK was summoned on Monday to the Foreign Office to hear the government objections to Macaire's arrest. After the meeting, the minister through the Iranian State TV stated that "any mistake of Britain will be severely confronted by Iran and London will be responsible for it".
